SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Firefighters and Border Patrol agents worked to rescue two people who were stranded in a canyon near the U.S.-Mexico border.
At around 11 p.m. Tuesday, San Diego Fire-Rescue crews responded to a Border Patrol request to assist in the rescue of two injured people in a ravine near Hollister Street and Monument Road -- an area known as “Smuggler’s Gulch" near the Tijuana River Valley.
With emergency crews having a hard time reaching the pair, a helicopter was flown to the area to help with the rescue.
However, one of the two people tried to run away but was taken into custody by border agents.
The second person was last seen limping away and evaded agents on the ground.
