SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) — One man died and a woman suffered serious injuries in an apparent assault and overdose at an East County home.

Deputies were called to a home Thursday just before 10:30 p.m. in the 10000 block of Madrid Way over reports of a possible overdose. When paramedics arrived, they found a 36-year-old man unresponsive and not breathing and a 36-year-old woman with stab wounds.

Deputies began CPR on the man and the woman began to vomit and pass out, San Diego Sheriff's Department said.

The woman told deputies she and the man, who was her boyfriend, had been arguing and drinking all day, and both had taken Oxycodone. The man became angry during the argument and stabbed her several times with a knife, she told deputies.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of her wounds. After performing life-saving measures at the scene, paramedics pronounced the man dead. His identity was not immediately released.

Detectives investigating the scene said there was evidence of possible Fentanyl use as well.

SDSO said there are no outstanding suspects and detectives were still investigating the incident Friday morning.
