EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- An elderly man was struck by a car and killed as he crossed an El Cajon street Wednesday night.

At around 11:30 p.m., El Cajon police and paramedics were called to the intersection of Jamacha and Main Street in response to a pedestrian hit by a vehicle.

Police said a pickup truck was traveling northbound on Jamacha when it hit the 80 year-old-man. Officers say the victim's leg was amputated, and he was not breathing when they arrived at the scene.

The victim, who was not identified, was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

According to police, the driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators.

Alcohol or drugs did not appear to be factors in the incident, police said.
