SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) - A tanker truck overturned Monday morning, spilling hundreds of gallons of what San Miguel Fire crews believed to be pool chlorine in Spring Valley.

Asphalt gave way beneath the tanker about 8:30 a.m. off Jamacha Blvd. A hole opened in the ground, causing the tanker to flip. No one was injured.

Hazmat officials told 10News about 2,500 gallons of chlorine spilled into a storm drain that feeds into the Sweetwater Reservoir.

Hasa, which owns the tanker, reached out to 10News with a statement.

“After evaluating the spill, it was determined that 381 gallons of liquid bleach, not chlorine, had spilled, of which none of the product made its way to the reservoir according to the Sweetwater authority," said a Hasa spokesperson.

Crews are determining the environmental damage caused by the spill.
