EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) — A dog owner says his French Bulldog likely foiled a clever burglar's attempt to break into his home.
Kyle Hansen says 2-year-old Rogue is nothing but sweet, unless a stranger or a dog gets too close to the puppies she gave birth to two months ago.
"She's like a lioness around her cubs. She barks and will get in front of her puppies," said Hansen.
Hansen believes that's exactly what happened Wednesday, before he returned to his home on Elizabeth Lane around 3:30 p.m. Glass was strewn across the brick back patio. The entire window frame was all in one piece and lying near the window.
Hansen believes the intruder tried to make a quiet entrance, attempting to remove a large window pane and coming face to face with one protective mom.
"Probably would have ran up to them and bit them. Simple as that. No hesitation," said Hansen.
Hansen figures the burglar likely didn't even make it into the home.
"They were prying the window and trying to pull it out. Got startled by the dog and dropped the glass right near the window," said Hansen.
Inside the home, electronics and jewelry were untouched. The attempted break-in comes amid a rash of burglaries in his neighborhood, including several last week. Hansen escaped with nothing stolen - likely because of one fierce Frenchie.
"She's a super hero. She's a good little dog ... She always gets treats. Now she may get more, even a big treat!" said Hansen.
Anyone with information on the break-ins is asked to call El Cajon Police at 619-579-3311.
