DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) – The Crossroads of the West Gun Show is returning to the Del Mar Fairgrounds this weekend, but its long-term future remains unclear.

The Del Mar Fairgrounds Board of Directors voted in September 2018 to suspend the Crossroads of the West show until California officials developed new safety policies for gun shows.

However, a judge’s ruling in June 2019 allowed the gun show to return to the Fairgrounds.

Gun show organizers said their First and Second Amendment rights were violated when the show was suspended, and a judge agreed, clearing a path for the show to be held in Del Mar from Sept. 27-29 while a court considered a lawsuit against the suspension.

In early September, California legislators passed Assembly Bill 893, which bans the sale of guns or ammunition anywhere on the Del Mar Fairgrounds property starting in 2021. Anyone who violates the bill could face a misdemeanor charge.

Gov. Gavin Newsom has until Oct. 13 to sign or veto the legislation.

Organizers said they plan to fight the bill if it becomes a law.
