CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A state-of-the-art hospital is nearly complete in the South Bay.
The Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center is expanding, adding a seven-story hospital to the current facility.
"I think this is just everything for this community, right now we're really the only ones investing down here in the South Bay, in Chula Vista," says Matt Teichner, Sharp Chula Vista Senior Project Manager.
"Everyone who comes in here gets seen regardless of your ability to pay, we see people from both sides of the border here, and we are just full to the brim every day right now."
It will be the first new hospital in San Diego's South Bay in more than 40 years.
Planners say patient safety and infection control was the number one factor when designing the new hospital.
The new hospital features advanced operating rooms as well as innovative technologies.
The new hospital is Sharp HealthCare's largest single investment to-date at $244 million.
Construction is scheduled to be complete by August and then a grand opening a few months later.
