CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - An Eastlake Middle School student was suspended Monday for bringing a BB gun to his school bus stop, Chula Vista Police said Tuesday.

Officers received a tip that the boy brought the weapon to the bus stop in front of the campus at 900 Duncan Ranch Road Friday.

The boy showed the gun to his friends and told them he planned to take the gun to the canyon and shoot at bushes, police said.

Officers said the boy, whose name is being withheld because he is underage, did not make any threats.

The student was detained Monday and his mother was contacted, said police.

Bringing a gun on campus is a misdemeanor, police said. The matter was referred to the District Attorney’s office for evaluation.
