LEMON GROVE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A car being pursued by sheriff’s deputies crashed into the backyard swimming pool at a Lemon Grove home early Wednesday morning.

San Diego County sheriff’s deputies were called to Mt. Vernon Street in response to a report of vehicles racing each other on the street.

When deputies arrived, the cars fled, prompting deputies to pursue them.

The pursuit was called off after deputies lost track of the vehicles. However, minutes later, a homeowner contacted authorities to report a car had landed in her swimming pool.

The home is located directly below Mt. Vernon Street, and it is believed the car had gone over the side and tumbled into the pool.

10News learned a man and woman escaped from the submerged car and fled the scene.

No injuries were reported.
