ALPINE, Calif. (CNS) - A 3-year-old boy was hospitalized Friday after the scooter he was riding collided with a compact car in a neighborhood a few miles west of the Viejas Casino.

The 2010 Mazda 3 was headed east about 9 a.m. when the unhelmeted youngster rode out of a residential driveway on River Dance Court in Alpine, near South Grade Road in Alpine, and hit the front passenger side of the sedan, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Paramedics airlifted the boy to Rady Children's Hospital for treatment of minor to moderately serious trauma, CHP public-affairs Officer Travis Garrow said.

The motorist, a 54-year-old El Cajon man, was not expected to be cited in connection with the accident, the spokesman said.
