Barrio Logan residents call for truck route enforcement

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Barrio Logan residents will talk to San Diego leaders Wednesday about the large trucks that are frequently traveling on neighborhood streets.

Many residents say police used to stop the big trucks after an ordinance was passed that kept them off neighborhood streets. However, lately, that hasn’t been the case.

Resident Philomena Marino said she’s worried about another truck-related accident in her neighborhood. In August, a truck smashed into a power pole near Main and 30th streets, which led to a fire and a loss of power for residents that lasted for hours.

The San Diego City Council had already passed two ordinances limiting trucks bigger than five tons to a route on Harbor Drive.

Neighbors want police to step up their enforcement before someone gets hurt.

Marino adds, “Let’s hope that a neighbor doesn’t die or the whole entire block blows up because that what we were trying to avoid.”
