Burning body discovered in backyard of Oceanside home

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A man found on fire in the backyard of an Oceanside home Friday morning died took his own life, police said.

At around 4:30 a.m., police and fire crews were called to a home in the 3200 block of Navigator Circle in response to a report of a burning body.

Neighbors who live behind the house told 10News they spotted flames coming from the yard and then saw the body, prompting them to make the 911 call.

When officers and firefighters arrived, they found the man -- who appeared to be in his 60s or 70s -- on the side of the yard.

Oceanside police did not immediately release any other details on the incident.

According to the neighbors, the man who lives at the home has been known to barbecue in the early morning hours.

The neighbors told 10News appeared to be renting the home and lived alone.
