LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) – Two people were hurt Monday morning after a fire erupted at a Lakeside apartment complex.
The fire broke out at around 3:45 a.m. at the Maplewood Apartments on Mapleview and Ashwood streets, Lakeside fire officials said. The blaze began in one apartment unit and caused damage to at least five others around it.
Two members of a family -- a 12-year-old girl and her 21-year-old sister -- were forced to jump from a second-story window to escape the flames. Their mother had to be rescued by responding firefighters, 10News learned.
Officials said the 21-year-old woman and her mother were injured and taken to the hospital, but they are expected to be OK.
10News learned 16 people and two dogs were displaced by the fire and subsequent damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
