RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A Vista man was killed Thursday evening in a head-on collision on state Route 78 in the Ramona area.

The California Highway Patrol said the crash involving two vehicles occurred on SR-78 near Magnolia Avenue at around 6:45 p.m.

According to the CHP, a 28-year-old man driving a Honda was traveling westbound when he drifted into the eastbound lane. The Honda then collided head-on with an eastbound Ram truck.

The Honda’s driver, a Vista resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The CHP said the Ram’s 56-year-old female driver was taken to the hospital with major injuries but is expected to survive.

The CHP noted both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, the CHP said.
