SABRE SPRINGS, Calif. (KGTV) - A hot air balloon flew over Interstate 15 and unexpectedly landed in a Sabre Springs park Sunday evening.
Witnesses recorded video of the balloon moving south past Black Mountain, over I-15 in Rancho Peñasquitos, and into the park.
Eight people were on board the hot air balloon. No one was injured, said the balloon's pilot, Phil Brandt.
He said they took off near highway 56 and Carmel Valley Road. From wind readings and a test balloon known as a 'pie ball' he expected they would reach their normal destination in Rancho Penasquitos near Camino Del Sur.
But several minutes into the flight, the wind started carrying them farther east.
"Because of the lack of directional control that we have, we can only go where the wind takes us," he said.
