It wasn't immediately clear how the animal became stuck, but a strange and heroic scene played out in Huntington Beach Friday, as rescuers saved a horse trapped in a dumpster.
Huntington Beach Fire Department crews were called to the trapped horse shortly after 2:30 p.m. the area of Ellis Avenue and Goldenwest Street, near the Huntington Central Park Equestrian Center. Crews from the Orange County Fire Authority Heavy Rescue Team also helped in the odd rescue.
The horse was safely hoisted from the dumpster using a brace shortly before 5 p.m., according to crews.
First responders who helped lift the animal from the dumpster and the horse itself were not injured.
