SAN DIEGO – The strong winds caused heavy damage to boats along the Embarcadero along the San Diego Harbor Sunday and overnight Monday.
The damage stretched from B Street Cruise Ship Terminal off Harbor Drive all the way to West Grape Street in Little Italy.
Harbor police say boats broke free of their moorings and crashed against the rocks. One sailboat’s mast broke and hit a section of fence along the B Street terminal. Another was leaking fuel.
One man had to be rescued by Harbor police after his boat started to sink. A Vietnam era gunboat also reportedly broke loose at the Maritime Museum.
The U.S. Coast Guard was assisting with the damage.
