SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — While firefighters are already providing life-saving services to San Diegans, they're also lending a financial hand to many organizations.

San Diego City Firefighters' COVID-19 Support Campaign will donate $57,000 over 19 days to local organizations helping the community during the coronavirus pandemic.

“Firefighters live and work in the communities. We go into people's homes and see the financial impacts of COVID-19 on a daily basis. Like so many others, we are compelled to do more to help our community through this difficult time.” said Local 145 President Jesse Conner.

Firefighters and local leaders will present a check for $3,000 each day to a different organization.

The groups receiving help include Serving Seniors, Feeding San Diego, Unite Here!, Jacob's Center, Support The Enlisted Project (STEP), UC San Diego Foundation, United Way, Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans - PANA, Sherman Heights Community Center, ElderHelp of San Diego, Community Christian Service Agency, and more to follow.

The donations will be highlighted virtually each day on San Diego City Firefighters' Facebook page from April 10 - 28.
