Gang member convicted of second-degree murder

Posted

A gang member who participated in the stabbing death of a rival 10 years ago during a fight in Paradise Hills was convicted Wednesday of second-degree murder.

David Huerta, 31, is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 6 in connection with the March 6, 2005, death of Javier Hernandez of Logan Heights.

Deputy District Attorney Anthony Campagna said Huerta was among a group of five gang members that confronted another group at a party.

The 21-year-old victim was beaten, kicked and stabbed 27 times, the prosecutor said.

Three men and a teenager were arrested and convicted in 2006 for their roles in the killing.

Huerta, who was not initially charged, subsequently bragged about how he participated in the murder, Campagna said.

He was taken into custody by Mexican authorities last year and turned over to San Diego homicide investigators.
