SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The fight over short-term rentals in San Diego is about to get even worse. Less than a week after the city council added new regulations to those rentals, Airbnb, and two other companies are fighting back.
Airbnb is teaming up with Share San Diego and HomeAway to collect signatures for a referendum to put the issue on the ballot for voters to decide.
The group has 30 days to collect roughly 35,000 signatures and crews are already on the ground gathering signatures. The three companies have already donated $100,000 for these efforts.
If all of the signatures are collected, the issue would go on the 2020 ballot. We reached out to the city for comment, but so far haven't heard back.
