SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A former U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander was sentenced Monday for attempting to meet a 13-year-old for sex in July.
Matthew Maples, 38, posted an advertisement on an online classified website titled “daddy looking for daughter - m4w”. Agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the San Diego Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force launched an investigation.
An undercover HSI agent communicated with Maples online. The agent said Maples detailed plans for a sexual encounter and sent a nude picture of himself, eventually making plans to meet at a Point Loma hotel. Maples was arrested after reserving a room.
Agents said Maples believed he was talking with a 13-year-old girl and intended to have sexual activity with her.
Maples pleaded guilty to attempted enticement of a minor. He was sentenced to 120 months in custody.
