CORONADO (KGTV) - The trailblazing woman who became the first female coach in the National Football League is bringing her football camp for girls to Coronado.

Her "Grrridiron Girls" event will be held Sunday, June 3 at Tidelands Park. Several former NFL players will help coach, including Billy Ray Smith and Gary Plummer.

"This is traditionally a game that girls are told they can't play or don't play, and I want them to know that there is no game that you cannot play and no field you don't belong in or on," Welter told 10News.

Jen Welter made history in 2015 when she was hired by the Arizona Cardinals as a linebackers coach.

Since then, she has chosen to turn her attention to working with children, hoping to empower girls to know they can participate in any sport they want.

"I don't care if they don't want to play football for the rest of their life, but don't tell them they can't," Welter said.
