SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Several residents were displaced after a fire tore through a garage at a City Heights home Thursday morning.
The fire was reported at around 1 a.m. in the 4100 block of Marlborough Avenue, according to San Diego fire officials.
As responding firefighters worked to knock down the flames, three adults and five children fled the house. One man with medical conditions suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to the hospital.
Officials said the fire ignited in a converted garage that is attached to a home, but the incident remains under investigation.
Several witnesses said they heard an explosion coming from the garage right before the blaze started.
Firefighters were able to put out the fire before it spread to other homes.
