SAN DIEGO – Firefighters struggled to reach a tree fire that broke out in Balboa Park that broke out late Monday night.
The fire broke out before 11:45 p.m. in a fenced-off area along Interstate 5, near the 6th Avenue offramp in the Prado Terrace neighborhood. The flames could be seen from the freeway. San Diego Fire-Rescue crews had to get their equipment over a chain link fence to reach the fire and extinguish it.
There were signs of a homeless camp in the area of the fire. The blaze didn’t threaten any buildings in the park. There were no injuries.
The cause is under investigation.
