SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Several residents suffered minor injuries Monday morning after a fire erupted at a Redwood Village-area apartment complex.

The fire was reported at around 1:30 a.m. at an apartment building in the 5700 block of Bates Street, according to San Diego fire officials.

Officials said the blaze broke out for unknown reasons in a first-floor unit and spread to the unit directly above it.

Several fire trucks responded, with crews rushing to evacuate nearby residents, including a family of five that lives above the unit on fire.

Medical personnel treated some residents for smoke inhalation, but no major injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
