SAN DIEGO -- A Navy commander accused of accepting prostitution services, theater tickets and other gifts from a Malaysian contractor in exchange for diverting ships to ports where the businessman's company could submit fake tariffs and other fees has decided to plead guilty.
Lawyer Mark Adams says his client, Michael Misiewicz, will enter the plea Thursday at an afternoon hearing in federal court in San Diego.
Seven other defendants have pleaded guilty in the case centered on Leonard Francis, nicknamed "Fat Leonard" because of his wide girth. One defendant has pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors say Francis offered theater tickets, prostitutes and plane tickets to Navy officials for classified information that helped his Singapore-based company, Glenn Defense Marine Asia Ltd., or GDMA, overbill the Navy by at least $20 million.
