SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A family escaped a fire that tore through the garage of their Carmel Valley home Wednesday morning, completely destroying two cars parked inside in the process.
San Diego fire officials said the incident was reported at about 4:20 a.m. at a home in the 15000 block of Sierra Rosa Trail, near Blue Dawn Trail, in the Pacific Highlands neighborhood.
Family members inside the home were able to evacuate safely as responding crews put out the fire within 20 minutes. The homeowner told 10News the smoke alarms that alerted the family were recently installed in the house.
Firefighters mostly contained the fire to the home’s garage, but the blaze did scorch parts of the bedroom above the garage. Smoke from the flames caused some damage throughout the house.
