ORANGE, Calif. (KGTV) - Two members of a construction crew, including one from Escondido, were struck and killed in Orange County Thursday night by a suspected drunk driver, according to City of Orange police.
The two men were standing outside their truck at a construction site in the bike lane of East Santiago Canyon Road near Jamboree Road when they were hit.
Orange Police said Hipolito Paez-Vazquez, 30, was driving west and hit the men and their truck.
Paez-Vazquez remained on the scene and was later arrested on suspicion of DUI.
The Orange County Coroner's office has not released the identities of the victims, who were from Escondido and Riverside County.
Construction has been underway in the area for quite a while, police said. A Google Maps image indicated the area has few street lights and showed a construction crew at work.
