(KGTV) - An Escondido man died after he was found unresponsive in the water off a Hawaii beach, according to a published report.
The MAUIWatch reported the incident occurred Tuesday just before 12:30 p.m. local time at Hulopoe Beach on the island of Lanai.
The man, who was identified as a 61-year-old visiting the island from Escondido, was reportedly part of a tour group from Maui and had been swimming at the beach when a nearby swimmer saw him unresponsive and floating in the water.
According to MAUIWatch, emergency responders and firefighters arrived to find bystanders had pulled the man to shore and were performing CPR on him.
Emergency crews took over, but efforts to revive the man were not successful and he was declared dead at the scene.
A cause of death has not been officially determined.
