ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) — An Escondido family says someone vandalized their car overnight using an acid or paint thinner.

The car, a 2006 Ford Mustang, was parked on the street across from their house on South Broadway near 13th Avenue.

Cris Avila’s mother discovered the damage to her car at 4 a.m. Wednesday as she was leaving for work.

“It looks like they poured some kind of acid and just spread it throughout the car,” Avila said.

“If it were me, I’d be like whatever,” she added. “But when it happens to your mom, and you see that reaction, you know she works so hard to get her house and to have a car, and it’s just like why?”

They haven't talked with insurance about cost and coverage yet.

They filed an online police report, hoping they can find the people responsible.
