EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - The El Cajon City Council will discuss ways to regulate dockless bikes that are seen scattered across the city.
On Tuesday, councilmembers plan to look at regulations on the bikes, which many say have become a problem for El Cajon police and other city departments.
El Cajon police say they have responded to numerous issues caused by dockless bikes. According to police, many transients in El Cajon are in possession of the bikes and have disabled the security system, rendering them unusable for the companies that own them.

Many bikes have been impounded by the city, but the companies are not doing their part to recover them, which means police cannot consider them stolen.
El Cajon’s Public Works Department receives an average of six calls per week about bikes blocking homes, sidewalks and ramps.
The El Cajon City Council plans to look at how other cities have imposed regulations on the bikes, with one idea being impound fees to bike companies.

So far, the city of El Cajon has not collected fees and has not had any of the bikes picked up after being impounded.
