EL CAJON -- A motorist who was stopped by deputies near El Cajon Monday ditched his car and fled on foot, but his freedom was short-lived, authorities said.
Shortly before 9 a.m., a car cut off a San Diego County Sheriff’s patrol car on State Route 67. He refused to stop and a short chase ensued. The suspect went through a stop sign, clipped another car and went into a ditch in the area of Ballentyne Street and Greenfield Drive, deputies say.
He jumped out of the car and tried to run. At one point, a witness told 10News he attempted to carjack another vehicle, but failed. He jumped a fence and ran through a mobile home park, where he was caught about 10 minutes later.
He is expected to face charges of evading officers and attempting carjacking. It was not immediately clear if the car he was driving was stolen because it has not plates.
