SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Gas and Electric may shut off power this week to parts of San Diego County with the highest wind speeds due to the fire threat posed by power lines.
The first outage happened Tuesday afternoon in Descanso to several dozen customers.
SDG&E is staging field crews and contract firefighters in areas with the gustiest winds. On Wednesday, crews moved a generator to Julian for emergency power, should power lines need to be turned off.

Amy Shaplin had to be rescued during the 2003 Cedar Fire and said schoolwork is the least of her concerns.
"We live on a ranch so it's definitely a lot more scary to check on the animals and all the barns after a big windstorm."
SDG&E has a wind mapping tool to measure which areas are experiencing the strongest gusts. The information will be used to determine when power needs to be shut off for public safety.
