SAN DIEGO – A gunman opened fire on a driver in a car-to-car shooting on State Route 125 in the Spring Valley area early Sunday morning.

The shooting occurred at around 1:20 a.m. on SR-125, near Jamacha Road. The suspect car drove up alongside the victim’s car and a gunman fired several rounds into it, striking the driver twice, once in the back of his skull and once in the shoulder, according to California Highway Patrol.

The victim drove his car to a Shell gas station near Interstate 805 and State Route 54 while his passenger, who was not hurt, called 911.

The driver was rushed by ambulance to a hospital, where he was last reported to be in stable condition, CHP said.

The suspect vehicle was described as a dark-colored sedan, possibly a Mercedes. It was not immediately clear how many people were in the vehicle. Investigators are unsure if this was a targeted attack.
