SAN DIEGO – Police are unsure what caused a man to pass out while behind the wheel of an SUV, crashing into a woman who was walking on the sidewalk late Thursday night.
The crash occurred at around 11:30 p.m. in the 4400 block of University Avenue. According to San Diego police, the Ford Expedition went over the curb and hit a woman and a metal pole. Following the crash, the driver was still passed out. Officers had to smash through a back window to reach him and wake him up.
Both the driver and the injured pedestrian were taken to a nearby hospital. Their injuries were not considered serious.
Police are investigating whether drugs, alcohol or a medical condition caused the crash.
