VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A driver sped away after knocking over a fire hydrant at a Vista apartment complex early Tuesday morning, causing a geyser that flooded the roadway.

The incident happened at around 1 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 1500 block of S. Melrose Avenue, according to sheriff’s deputies.

While deputies do not have a detailed description on the driver or the vehicle that hit the hydrant, they believe the person lives in the complex because a code is required for entry.

Water officials were able to shut off the water after about an hour.

The incident is under investigation.
