SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A fire that erupted at a Kensington-area school early Monday morning is being investigated as arson.
Just after 5 a.m., a neighbor reported seeing smoke coming from Franklin Elementary School at 4481 Copeland Avenue, according to San Diego police.
Responding firefighters arrived to find a clothing bin and coat rack on fire outside of the school's auditorium and cafeteria.
It took crews less than 15 minutes to fully stomp out the fire before it spread. The fire did cause some damage to the auditorium and cafeteria areas.
Police said they believe the blaze was set intentionally.
The incident did not appear to affect the school's operations Monday morning.
