(KGTV) — Riverside County health officials have announced the Stagecoach and Coachella music festivals — originally rescheduled for October — have been canceled for 2020.

Citing concerns over a fall surge in coronavirus cases, Riverside County Public Health Officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser signed the order canceling the popular festivals.

"I am concerned as indications grow that COVID-19 could worsen in the fall. In addition, events like Coachella and Stagecoach would fall under Governor Newsom’s Stage 4, which he has previously stated would require treatments or a vaccine to enter," said Kaiser. "Given the projected circumstances and potential, I would not be comfortable moving forward. These decisions are not taken lightly with the knowledge that many people will be impacted. My first priority is the health of the community."

Riverside County says it is in contact with festival organizer Goldenvoice regarding the cancelations.

As of Wednesday, Goldenvoice had not issued specific guidance on refunds for the two festivals, but offers general refund guidance for concerts on its website here.
