PALA (KGTV) - Pala Casino and Resort broke ground Tuesday on a $170 million expansion which tribal officials say will focus on resort atmosphere.
Tribal gaming is a fiercely competitive industry. Four other major casinos in Southern California are also undergoing renovation projects in an effort to gain a larger share of growing state revenue.
According to a 2016 California State Audit, Indian gaming revenues in California and northern Nevada roughly tripled in less than 20 years to $7.9 billion in 2015.
Pala Casino's expansion project will include a 350 guest suite tower, a redesigned pool and entertainment complex, revamped restaurant row and a refresh of the entire casino area. They expect to finish by 2019.
