Posted

The U.S. Coast Guard transported an 85-year-old man from a cruise ship 220 miles south of Point Loma, Coast Guard officials said Saturday.

At 6:07 p.m. Friday, officials at the Eleventh Coast Guard District in Alameda were informed by a Carnival Princess crew that the unidentified passenger was experiencing symptoms of gastrointestinal bleeding.

Coast Guard officials said the surgeon on duty recommended the man be taken to a hospital for emergency care.

A Coast Guard Jayhawk helicopter arrived on the ship and then hoisted the man at 8:50 p.m., the Coast Guard said.

At 10:50 p.m., the Jayhawk crew returned to San Diego, where the man was then transferred to UC San Diego Medical Center, in Hillcrest.

The Coast Guard said the man was listed in stable condition as of late Friday.
