Classic racing sailboat falls off trailer into busy San Diego street

Not badly damaged but owner ready to unload

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A strange sight Thursday in Mission Beach after a vintage sailboat hit the pavement, rather than the sea.

The boat was being towed to a slip in the bay when the truck driver said he hit a pothole on Ingraham Street; a trailer tire blew out, and the 1954 Schock midget ocean racer fell off and into the street.

No one was hurt but traffic was diverted around the scene and the owner’s day was ruined.

“Capt. Pat” said he spent about 500 hours refurbishing the 25-footer and was hoping to sell it.

Not badly damaged; he said probably just some scratches; taken to a tow storage lot for now.  He’s looking for someone to buy it.
