CHULA VISTA -- The all-star team from the Chula Vista-based Park View Little League will begin play in the Little League World Series Friday after winning the West Regional tournament with a 1-0 victory over the all-star team from the Mountain Ridge Little League.
Victor Lizarraga pitched a one-hitter, striking out 13 and walking three in the regional championship game Saturday at Al Houghton Stadium in San Bernardino, making Park View the 12th team from San Diego County to reach the Little League World Series and fourth in eight years.
Park View scored the lone run in the fourth inning of the six-inning game. Leadoff hitter Adriel Colmenero reached first on an error, advanced to second on Anthony Soto's one-out infield single, moved to third when Adam Amaro reached first on an error and scored on Ju Ju Padilla's ground out.
Hunter Kublick broke up Lizarraga's bid for a no-hitter with a single leading off the sixth, but Lizarraga retired the next two batters.
Luke Miles, the special pinch-runner for Kublick, went to second on a passed ball, the first runner from the Nevada state champion to advance past first. However, Lizarraga ended the game with a strike out to give Park View its 11th consecutive victory since losing its opener in the Southern California South Subregional July 23.
Park View, the Southern California champion, is 18-2 in its four tournaments. It will face the all-star team from the Johnston Little League of Johnston Iowa, the Midwest Region champion, Friday in the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Park View won the 2009 Little League World Series.
