CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - The Park View Little League team from Chula Vista is eyeing another run at the Little League World Series.

The team has gone undefeated in the Southern California Championships. If they win their game on Saturday, they will advance to the Western Region tournament.

The winner of that tournament will represent the West in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA.

Park View took the title in 2009. They returned again in 2016 but were knocked out before the final round.

Luke Ramirez was one of the star players in 2009.

He said, their success was a breakthrough for local youth baseball.

“I think this has always been a rich area of talent,” he said. “I think the experience we had in 2009 set precedents for All-Star teams after that.”

But during their run, he says, a championship title was still viewed as a pipe dream.

“I don’t want to say it wasn’t a reality but it was kind of not in the front of our minds,” he remembered.

Park View’s game against Huntington Valley is Saturday at 1 p.m. in Alisa Viejo.
