Chula Vista budget includes funding for more police, firefighters

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The Chula Vista City Council has approved its budged for the 2018 through 2019 fiscal year.

According to the city, the combined budget for all city funds totals more than $347 million. That figure includes more than $174 million for the general fund operating budget and over $30 million for the Capital Improvement Program.

The budget includes funding for five peace officers to the Police Department, 12 full-time firefighters and the replacement of aging fire and police vehicles.

The budget also includes a second year of Measure P funding with $18.1 million allocated for infrastructure improvement.

Included in the Measure P budget is funding for residential street repair, sport court repairs and a number of other projects.

Measure P is a temporary, 10-year, half-cent sales tax approved by tax payers in the city in 2016.
