SAN DIEGO – Local children who were killed in acts of violence will be remembered in an annual ceremony in San Diego.
The San Diego Chapter of Murdered Children will hold their Day of Remembrance Friday evening. The event will include speeches from surviving family members and a candle lighting ceremony.
It is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Toby Wells YMCA.
Among those who will be remembered are Danielle van Dam, a 7-year-old who was stolen from her bedroom in 2002. Her body was found a month after her disappearance in east San Diego County. The family’s neighbor, David Westerfield, was later arrested and convicted of kidnapping and murder.
