LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - A 3-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital after authorities said she fell from a window at a La Jolla apartment complex.

The incident happened at around 11 p.m. Tuesday at an apartment complex in the 3300 block of Lebon Drive, according to authorities.

10News learned the girl was on a bed when she pushed a window screen. When the screen popped out, the girl fell from the two-story window.

Authorities said the girl’s mom rushed to grab her but could not get to her in time.

The girl was bleeding from the mouth and suffered other injuries after hitting pavement below.

Mohammad Abu Odeh, the girl’s father, told 10News she is at home and does not have a scratch on her body. He said it's amazing she wasn't hurt and wants other parents to be aware this could happen in a split second.

"My wife started screaming and I went downstairs and I saw her standing. I don't know how, but thank God she was standing. She's better now emotionally. She was shook from the accident. It wasn’t easy for her. It’s like 12 feet,” said Abu Obeh.

Paramedics at the scene said they could not find any signs of serious injury, but the girl was taken to Rady Children’s Hospital via ambulance. She was released hours later.

A recent study shows 5,000 kids a year fall from windows, mostly children under the age of 5. Experts say the best way to prevent this from happening is removing all furniture from the window area.
