Cars parking on lawns in College Area after ease on enforcement

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - With parking in the College Area at a premium, many residents are resorting to different options, including parking on lawns.

A shift in a city of San Diego policy is allowing residents to park in their front yards under the so-called “alternative compliance.” That means the action is on the lowest level of priority for officials to enforce.

Resident Baptiste Robineau told 10News he and others park on lawns as a way to get around buying pricey parking permits or having to park far away.

“We'd rather the situation be to where we didn't have to park on our lawns,” he said.

Neighbor David Boyd believes cars parked on lawns are an eyesore in the neighborhood.

“I wouldn’t call it blight, but it’s lack of care in the community,” said Boyd.

Asked about how he would deal with the issue, Boyd told 10News, “My first reactioin would be to go straight to the neighbor and say, ‘Look, this is kind of bothering me.’”
