CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A 97-year-old man and his wife faced a close call Monday night, after he accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, ultimately landing the car on its side between gas pumps at a nearby gas station.
The couple and their small dog were at a light when the man hit the wrong pedal and swerved into oncoming traffic, police told 10News. To avoid other drivers, the man continued swerving and launched into the gas station. There were no injuries to anyone in the car, but the driver and his wife were taken to the hospital for observation.
Since no one was at the pumps there were no injuries at the gas station. Police say, had someone been there - they would have been crushed.
