ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) - The West Fire scorched about 400 acres across Alpine, destroying several structures and displacing residents.

The fire was reportedly 5 percent contained, as of 5:30 p.m.

Cal Fire said the West Fire began at about 11:30 a.m. off I-8 & West Willows Rd., before spreading west into the Alpine community.

Triple-digital temperatures and wind gusts of 12-15 miles per hour fueled the fire's spread, according to fire officials.

Two firefighters have been injured in the fire. The first suffered slight burns to the face and is expected to be released Saturday. The second firefighter suffered heat-related injuries.
