SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Crews on the ground and in the air made quick work of a brush fire that broke out in a canyon in the Mission Valley area.

The fire was reported shortly before 5:40 a.m. in an area behind the Hampton Inn on Hotel Circle, dispatchers said.

It took firefighters on the ground, with the help of at least one helicopter water drop, about 30 minutes to douse the flames.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials noted the area has been populated with homeless encampments in the past.

The fire comes as San Diego County remains under a Red Flag warning due to strong Santa Ana winds.
